Marvel’s First Family is Back
FF MIA?
Marvel has announced that the Fantastic Four is returning to their lineup beginning in August. C.B. Cebulski, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics, revealed that writer Dan Slott (Amazing Spider-Man, Silver Surfer) and artist Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Spider-Man) will take on Marvel’s original super-team. “We’ve been waiting for the right creators to come available for this book,” Cebulski said. “It’s been in the works a long time, we’ve been waiting for them to free up.”
The Fantastic Four have been absent from the Marvel line-up since 2015, with two of its members (The Thing and Human Torch) making appearances in other titles while Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman — the patriarch and matriarch of the “family” — have been M.I.A. The disappearance of the husband and wife couple has long been a subplot within the Marvel Universe, but it sounds like fans will soon get answers to where the other half of the Fantastic Four have been.
According to the New York Times, “Mr. Slott said the Fantastic Four were in the first comics he ever read back when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby had the team meet the cosmic entity Galactus in 1965. “I started my adventures in the Marvel Universe with a freaked-out Reed Richards, the Watcher and the Silver Surfer,” Mr. Slott recalled. “I’ve wanted this for so long.”
Ms. Pichelli was excited about working on the series, but coy. “I can’t wait to draw a lot of the characters, but there’s one in particular I can’t reveal yet,” she said in an email interview. “You will know why they’re my favorite when you read the book.”
