IDW is doing a hard-reboot of their TRANSFORMERS line this March with a new series exploring the pre-history of the Cybertron War. Here’s the solicitation from IDW:

In the infinite universe, there exists a planet like no other: Cybertron! This is the Cybertron that Optimus Prime and Megatron vie for in this bold new origin-a world of seemingly endless peace! All that changes when Bumblebee and Windblade take a newly-forged Cybertronian on his first voyage through this world of wonders-they are confronted by the hard reality of the first murder to have occurred on Cybertron in living memory!

According to the publisher, this series is set on Cybertron before the formation of the Autobot and Decepticon camps. It’s way before Unicron and any story they’ve told before. To keep things managable, there are no tie-in mini-series or one-shots planned in the next six months at least — IDW’s focus is this one title, twice a month.

This title will see politics at play on this (currently) peaceful planet, with “a lot of epic science fiction beats and positive personality development.” You’ll see familiar new characters like Windblade as well as the old-school G1 favorites like Optimus, Megatron and Bumblebee. The major themes of the book will be “establishing a world of technological wonder, and the politics of how different factions can destabilize.” The POV will be through a newly created Transformer as the first murder ever on Cybertron takes place.
